I've been diagnosed with breast cancer

Hi, I'm a mum of 11 children with my oldest being 33 & my youngest 6yrs old, I've been diagnosed with breast cancer, which I'm told can't be operated on as they think it's gone 2 my lymph nodes,  so ivegot 2 have chemotherapy, I've had a PET scan & won't be seen until the 18th of June 24, I've got 2 have another ultrasound 2 have a marker put in where my initial cancer started, also had a phone call saying they want an ultrasound of my groin where I've got a large lump which I went doctors about a fewmths back when they said it just a fatty tissue, My husband thinks I've got cancer cos of the stress of my 25yr old son being murdered 4yrs ago!

  • Hello Cjj

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis and the trauma that your family has been through the past few years. Undoubtedly it's a difficult time for you all and natural that you may have questions and concerns about this diagnosis.

It's not uncommon for people to have to wait while extra tests are recommended after an initial diagnosis although we know for many people this period of uncertainty can be difficult. Hopefully when you see the specialist on June 18th they will be able to give you a clear picture of things and you won't have to wait too long then to start chemotherapy.

We know that lots of women have chemotherapy before having any surgery so please try not to worry too much about this.

I'm sorry to hear about the death of your son. I can't begin to imagine how difficult that has been for you all and understandably you will have been under an immense amount of stress at that time. We do have some information on our website that hopefully may offer you some reassurance about stress and cancer

In the meantime, I'd recommend getting in touch with one of our team of nurses to talk things through with them. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can ahead of your next appointment. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on over the next few weeks.

    Best wishes,
