Cancer survivor and depression

Hi All. My user name is Purrs. As in my beautiful fur baby cat.

I have joined this morning as i an currently a stage 3 uterine cancer survivior patient of 3 years.

Sadly ontop of this i have Graves thyroid disease which is making my  life unbearable.

The symptoms are awful. I spend my days housebound and quite frankly as there is no cure i

feel worse than i did fighting the the cancer.

I was wondering if anyone else out there had so far survived cancer only to be housebound with

another awful disease.

I lost my beloved other cat and my husband to cancer within weeks many years ago and find little pupose

in fighting each day. The only reason i go on is because of my beloved cat. I have no children.

Friends and family are few and far between and i feel just to get an understanding text from someone every

now and then that understands how i feel would be a great help.

Well thank you for reading this today.

All the best to you all. xxxxx

  • Hiya Purrs.  So sorry to read what you are going through.  My situation is similar to yours.  I am housebound because I have terminal cancer which has reached the stage where I am no longer able to go out, and even the simplest of tasks makes me feel like I have climbed a mountain.  I used to love to travel and I also loved going for long walks in the park, so you can probably imagine how depressed I feel at times.  It seems so unfair that you have beaten the dreaded 'Big C'  only to get another illness that has made you  housebound.   Also, losing your husband and your fur baby within weeks of each other is absolutely awful.  Sometimes it seems that life throws everything at us all at once doesn't it?  I am not surprised you are feeling so low.  Years ago when I was in my 20s I suffered from depression and I used to get days when I felt suicidal, so I know just how terrible it feels.  I honestly wish that there was something that I could say to you to make you feel better, but the only thing that I can do is empathize with your situation.  Take care mate, I wish you all the best, xx

  • I care a lot about a cat here! Absolutely love her.

You know, there are people who have been fine on carbimazole or propylthiouracil for years. (Though getting the dose right, and adjusting thyroid hormone of using a block and replace approach, sometimes takes far too long.) And there are a few new medicines in trial. Might be available while the current medicine(s) are still working.

My thyroid issue is the easy side - simple hypothyroidism - but I am well aware how bad it can be at times for others across the range of thyroid disorders.
