Chemotherapy

I have had a video consultation with the Oncology consultant this morning.  I have grade 2 breast cancer and have to make the difficult decision about chemo.  I have been booked in for radiotherapy 15th may thought this may be enough to cope with.  I am also on Letrozole and will be having regular mammograms.  The side effects of chemo seem very severe and as I am quite active and well at the present time I am  feeling very upset by it all.

I have been reading up and trying to take in all the information I can.   I am 69yrs old quite fit and not overweight as I go to slimming classes and own a dog which gets me out and about and go on lots of holidays.

Any advice would be welcome

Hi just wanted to say,I have a friend who  had trouble, felt a sharp pain couldn't walk well, went to A+E HD a bowel scan, and they found lessons on her bones. It turned out she had  breast cancer, she didn't have no lumps, but the lessons on her kegs were operated on at a later date. She was told  the breast csncer had spread to her bones, and it waa treatable. But not curable. She wasn't ifferd chemotherapy or radiotherapy, but she is on Letrazole lije me. She has to go into hospital every so often for infusions to help her bones.  But her csncer nurse told her she has had lady's with the same as her and they go on to live a long time, one last has been living witj ut fir 25yrs,and is still going strong.

My friend has judt turned 60,so she's a lot younger than ne,. To be honest she is doing amazing, she's took up a charity Job,in a kitchen for the homeless, whuch she dies twice a week. She's quite active ,walks her dogs, goes on holidays abroad with her husband. She's amazing. She was diignised in 2023. Just thought ud tell you that, uts good to think when your told its not curable, you can go on for much longer than you think . .

  • Meant had a bone scan, not bowel scan . Predicted text changed it to that ,sorry .

  • Hi  Thanks very much for chatting to me. I have sent an e mail to cancer nurses also can't get too much information  but probably won't get a reply till Monday.  I have lots of pamphlets to read trying to make sense of it all

  • Hi Lorraine,

I understand you completely, Stage 2 breast cancer here too. I am 76 and also had a video consult about chemo but they were also insisting that I had yet another booster. At that time November 2023 I was fully vxd. She was and still is useless with little explanation about my lymph nodes anyway water under the bridge I have not had chemo. Fit active and a carer for my hubby. I'm on Letrozole and was on verzenios .

It is a personnal choice but chemo does have serious side effects. I'm off verzenios because my liver function is 12 times allowed level, and the side affects coming off this drug are wild I'm feeling as though I've been hit by a steam roller.

The information available is not really clear but when I looked at the statistics my gut feeling was that I was not going to gain a lot by having chemo and we really do not know how our body is going to respond.

I am very positive and insist daily thay my body keeps killing any potential cancer cells.

    sending you virtual hugs

    Eileen

  • Thank you so much Jassoscared.  I have gone 18 months past the time I was actually given, and very much believe that having a positive attitude extends life.  I am not saying that I don't get my 'down days'........yes I do, but for the most part, I am determined to enjoy however long I have got left of this life.  Wishing you all the best, xx
