New diagnosis of skin cancer

I have just been diagnosed with skin cancer I'm awaiting appt to have it removed,,,,anyone else had this procedures.

  • Hi,

Which type of skin cancer is it (Basal cell, Squamous cell or Melanoma) as procedures vary depending on the type? How was it diagnosed? Was it examined by a dermatologist who has recommended surgical removal as it's possibly skin cancer or has it already been removed, sent for biopsy & the results confirm it's skin cancer?

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)

  • I got referred by my Dr. To  dermatologist  I went and he's arranging to have it removed and yes was all done via Dermatologist  athospital. SQUAMOUS cell.

  • OK. With Squamous Cell it will be removed by surgery under a local anaesthetic & a margin of tissue around it will also be removed to ensure they've got it all. Sometimes they may also use radiotherapy depending on how large it is & it's location. They will explain the procedure to you in a pre-op appointment. Good luck, most SCC are successfully treated without any further problems.
