FIT TEST >200

Hi All, had FIT Test results back today at >200 and really stressing out!!

I have been passing blood with every toilet visit for 8 weeks or more (Bright Red)

my results say "refer your patient on the suspected LGI Cancer Pathway, the anxiety of it all is just too much :(

I'm 42 and otherwise fit and healthy but cannot think straight at all.

  • OK, I'm no expert but I did have rectal bleeding and other symptoms 3 years ago, at 40. All the FIT test tells you is that there is blood in your stool and how much. It does not say anything about what causes is, just that it's there and you knew that already, because you saw it.

"Suspected LGI Cancer Pathway" also really just means your FIT test said there was blood in your stool. It doesn't mean they think it IS cancer, just that cancer is one of the possible causes of that symptom and therefore, they want the test done quickly.

My symptoms were rectal bleeding, weight loss, trapped wind and occasional loose stools (maybe once a week) and the consultant said that if my mother came in with those symptoms, he'd be concerned about cancer, but that at my age, it was possible but unlikely and I'd be "the unluckiest person in the world" if that turned out to be the explanation. It turned out to be exactly what we all expected - hemorrrhoids, probably combined with the effects of my thyroid medication and possibly the stress of the whole thing.

Lots of things can cause blood in the stool - bowel cancer, a polyp, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's, diverticulitis, an infection, a fissure, hemorrhoids, etc. Given your age and that you don't have any other symptoms, cancer is probably one of the less likely options.

I know it's still terrifying, because it is still a possibility.

  • Thank you MargaretMary for replying, really appreciate what you have to say. Havent really told anyone as dont want to worry people till i know what we are worrying about but today just.really feeling it and wondering if theres more symptoms ive just ignored or not paid attention to.

I am a born worrier....  so really minds just working over time. You are right there are lots of possibilities i just needed to hear it from someone else.

    Thanks again

I'm in the same position as you! FIT was <400 on mine and they've referred for 'Urgent Suspected Bowel Cancer Pathway' and my anxiety is through the roof. I've also had unintentional weight loss, stomach pains and it doesn't matter how much fibre I eat in my diet I am ALWAYS constipated. Just hoping and praying it's something minor but my GP didn't sound too convinced. I'm only 24 and have a 7 month old baby so I really hope we find out whats going on soon!!

  • I don’t think the FIT test is 100% right some of the time because in July 2022 i had a negative fit test and in December 2023 i had a positive FIT test which told me i had bowel cancer and a 5 cm tumour, that tumour couldn’t have suddenly grown that large in less than a year I wouldn’t have thought

Awww fingers crossed it is something Minor and you get answers soon. There could be lots of things especially with having a 7 month old, i know i havent been the same since my littlest was born shes now 3.
