Hello I’m Emma - mum has been diagnosed with advanced colon cancer. Still in shock

I’m a little in shock still but my mum aged 80 has just been diagnosed with advanced colon cancer, with a T4 N1 tumour. On reading the booklets given by the hospital they also mention an M rating but this wasn’t mentioned? Does that mean that it hasn’t metastasised? If that’s even a word?

We have an oncology team meeting on Thursday but I’m more worried about her mental state atm. She is on her own with an amazing group of friends but my brother and I live at least 2.5 hrs away.

everything feels chaotic and very raw. I just want her to be able to enjoy life as much as possible with the chemo that will be starting. Any good advice for starting off on this unexpected path????

  • A very warm welcome to the forum Emma although I'm sorry to hear about your mum's colon cancer.

I hope your meeting with the oncology team went well today but if either of you have any further questions about her diagnosis, or would just like to talk things through with someone, then do give our cancer nurses a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to help.

Hopefully some of our members will share their experiences and advice with you soon but in the meantime, we're thinking of you Emma and wishing your mum all the best on this journey.

    Kind regards,
