Peritoneal cancer

Hi All, I am new to the big C and this forum. I recently had a diagnosis of Peritoneal cancer, had a biopsy last week and am currently awaiting the results.

I have a large growth in my upper left abdomen and smaller ones spread around. I know there will be chemo involved and possibly surgery but all a bit vague at the moment.

Has anyone else had this diagnosis and what was your experience?

  • Hi Steph. I was diagnosed with Bile duct cancer which spread to Peritoneum and now  into Liver. I started Chemotherapy at the beginning of December 2024 and from my very first session I felt some relief from the pain (I thought it might have been in my mind). And not really knowing if the pain was coming from the bile duct, the peritoneum or the Liver.   I am on Gen/cis chemo by the way. My last scan about 4 weeks ago showed all shrinking especially in the Liver, were it’s shrunk by 2cm. However 2 new 1cm tumours have appeared in the Liver which hadn’t been there before.  I only have another 3 sessions of chemo left then Consultant will monitor after the scan.  There doesn’t seem to be a lot of info or research into cancer of the Bile duct or Peritoneum that I can see. Probably with them being rare.  I’ve only ever been sick once after chemo. Sometimes I have loads of energy the days after (could be the steroids they give you) or sometimes I’m really tire but generally I’ve found it much better than expected.  My hair hasn’t fallen out which I was told it doesn’t usually on this chemo Combe but it has did go grey within a few weeks but looks fine actually as its short and the least of my worries.  I wish you well and try not to worry about the Chemo. Big hugs xx

  • Hi Kat-7, thank you so much for your reply which I found really reassuring. It sounds like you have coped with it all in a very positive way which is what I hope to be able to do as well. I am in the waiting stage at the moment - MRI and biopsy results - so no one at my hospital is able to comment or progress me until they are all through and been discussed. It seems to take ages and all the time I am worrying that there are hidden complications. You are right, having a rare cancer means not much info about - mind you that maybe a good thing !! Hope your cancers continue to shrink and your outcome is good. Thanks once again for reaching out :) x
