Calprotectin 3012 and FIT of 300

Hi, I’ve had constipation followed by severe cramping that I can only liken to labour pains, followed by awful watery dioreah. I noticed blood so went to see GP who ran tests. Blood fine other than low ferritin and FIT test of 300 and Calprotectin of 3012. I’ve been put on 2ww cancer pathway for colonoscopy  but GP called me on Thursday and said more likely IBD. On reading up on it though, I don’t think I have the symptoms generally…could it all be nothing? I feel like a bit of a fraud…other than blood in poo and right side pain and very low appetite, I’m fine.

  • Hello Sarah,

You did the right thing to go and see the GP when you noticed blood and it's good that they have run some tests. It must be a stressful time for you after getting your FIT test and calprotectin results to be put on the 2 week pathway for a colonoscopy but it sounds like your GP thinks it is more likely to be IBD; it's difficult to say really what it might be but you are definitely not a fraud and you have symptoms such as blood in your stools, right side pain and very low appetite which should be investigated. The colonoscopy will no doubt shed some light on what is causing these issues as well as the elevated calprotectin and FIT levels. I hope that you won't have to wait too long to be seen and that you find out more soon. Keeping everything tightly crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our forum who have had similar symptoms before and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you.

    Best wishes,
