Newbie: I had a bowel cancer op in Jan and starting a 4 cycle Chemo this week. Anyone else on capecitabine?

Hi all

im Frenchie.  I had a bowl cancer op in Jan and starting a 4 cycle Chemo this week.

Cancer was stage 3 but the surgery was successful and CT/MRI 3 months later found no disease and ctDNA came back negative meaning I am only on tablets for 3 months to minimise the risk of a a return.

The tabs I am on are Capecitabine, I was wondering if anyone can share any first dose experience?  I was wondering how quickly the side effects, if present, are likely to kick in?  I have a long car trip that day so wondering how best to manage.

thanks

John

  • Hi I had my bowel resection end Jan and have started capacitibine 4 days ago.Im feeling OK apart from a few minor side effects..excess saliva and slight tingle in hands and feet. Its early days and as you know it's cumulative .Good luck  drink lots water, eat, rest up.

  • Dassy, thanks so much for sharing your experience.  Till the. All I had was the medical support which is largely communication of all the side effects.  Whilst important to understand this it is all a bit depressing.  A little balance is uplifting.  I’ll be starting the journey this evening.  I hope your side effects remain minimal any your outcome positive.  A n unexpected start to the year but hopefully we can soon put behind us and return to some normality.

    All the best
