Waiting for appointment and tests

Hi my name is Isadora. I'm new here and very scared and anxious that I find myself here. I wasn't sure whether to join yet or not, I don't have a diagnosis, just suspicions as my doctor doesn't like the look of my left tonsil as it's an odd shape and is bigger than the other. I've also been getting jaw stiffness, neck pain and tiredness.

My doctor has done a referral to an ENT specialist and then a biopsy will be done and then I should know pretty soon after that.

She said as I'm 27 it would be rare to be cancer but she said it's better to get it checked by a specialist.

I don't know how long the wait will be but I am very worried. I left this a while, ignoring the pain and the growth of my tonsil. Now I'm kicking myself for not doing anything about it sooner.

  • Hello Isadora

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some health concerns recently and that you're now waiting for an appointment with the ENT specialist. It's understandable that you're feeling worried.

We know that for many people this period of waiting and uncertainty can be difficult. It can sometimes help to talk to someone about how you're feeling and I wonder if you might find it useful to chat with one of our nurses ahead of your first appointment. I know they will be happy to offer any advice and support they can along with helping you think about any questions you might want to ask the specialists. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your appointment Isadora and the team will be able to give you some reassurance when you see them.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
