Can I take cod liver oil or a similar supplement with Anastrozole? Really struggling with joint pain

Hi

Not sure if I am posting on the group , just after some advice regarding taking Anastrozole .

i have been on this for just over 2 years, but the joint pain in my legs and feet are really bothering me at the moment.

just wondering if I can take Cod Liver oil or a similar supplement with the Anastrozole to ease the pain , so many conflicting reports on the internet.

Thought if I ask fellow cancer friends I might get some direct answers .

Thank You so much

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, Stretton.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing joint pain while taking Anastrozole. It's understandable that you would want to explore ways to alleviate your discomfort.

While I can't offer medical advice, it's a good idea to discuss any supplements or medications you're considering, including cod liver oil or similar supplements, with your doctors as they  can provide personalised guidance based on your individual health status, medical history, and current medications. They can also help you weigh the potential benefits and risks of adding a supplement to your treatment regimen. Aldo, keep in mind that they might be able to help with incorporating supplements to help manage your joint pain.

Until you have a chance to speak with them if you feel like asking our team of nurses some general questions, they'd be happy to chat with you Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on this freephone 0808 800 4040.

Take care, and I hope you find relief soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Sorry it has taken me so long to reply, but not a medical proffesional but into herbs and supplements. The web site i use says that there is no reason for not taking cod liver oil. It an American site Memorial Slone Kettering institute and was given to me by Maggies. I can suggest using a magnesium oil (bought or made by dissolving epsom salts in hot water) this sprayed onto joint pain can work wonders as a lack of magnesium is often a cause of joint pain. Wishing you all the best in your search and hope you can overcome this
