Hi, I’m Tracie. 

I’m wondering if anyone has had a mastectomy and immediate reconstruction using DIEP surgery?

I’m waiting for the results of a Sentinel Lymph Node biopsy, if all clear , I’ll be moving forward to the surgery being booked in. I try not to, but finding this overwhelming. I’m very concerned for the lengthy recovery and feeling the pressure for considerable time off work. I was told 6-8 weeks off work and now been told 3 months. If anyone has been through the same operation, which I understand is major, I’d love to know your experience of the surgery and recovery.

    I'm sorry to hear that you've been given a diagnosis of high-grade DCIS and that you're now facing surgery. It's understandable that you have questions and concerns about the recovery period. 

    DIEP is a large surgery and I know that we've had a few members post here on the forum previously to share their stories. You can find some of those posts to read through by using the forum search function at the top of the page to search for the term "DIEP". You might also find it helpful to have a look at the Breast Cancer Now website and search for the same term. 

    I hope that your sentinel lymph node biopsy brings some positive news for you and that whatever you decide regarding your surgery and reconstruction things go smoothly for you.
