Worried, scared! Diagnosed with 2 brain Tumours at 64

Hello Everyone,

I have been diagnosed in May 23 with a subependgymoma (benign) and a low grade Glioma . Ten months on I’m still not certain whether the Glioma is benign or malignant , as my Neuro Surgeon is adamant that doing a biopsy is to dangerous.

I’m also told my diagnosis was accidental finding, although  I  was initially seen at hospital for Perhearal  Neuropathy symptoms and spondylolisthesis. I’ve had to give up teaching due to my I’ll health.. not been able to walk or function effectively.   In the past 6 months my health has really deteriorated. My vision is affected, with me having blind spots and floaters in both eyes and a cataract in the left eye. My hearing has deteriorated to the point of me needing hearing aids. I suffer with constant tinnitus.

I feel that because of my age , my health issues and the fact that I have multiple tumours, they have given up on me without even attempting to perform a biopsy to establish whether I have cancer or not.

I’m wondering whether there is anyone out there with the same diagnosis that can share their experience. Anyone who is just under active surveillance , as I am. I’m finding it difficult to decide if I should look at immunotherapy as treatment , as I’ve not been offered any form of treatment.

im in turmoil as my husband is not very supportive.  My boys are great, but I can’t burden them with all the details of my diagnosis.. please HELP ME I feel so alone!

  • Hello Joy.EB,

I'm sorry to hear how you're feeling. You are on active surveillance, but if you feel further investigation is needed, you should speak to your neuro surgeon again, if you haven't already, as there may be other options. You can also find information on Glioma on our website, which you can refer to at any time. It's a shame you say your husband isn't very supportive, but communication will still be important for you at this time so do share your feelings with him and others close to you.

I hope this helps and the forum is here for you whenever you need it.
