Hello - Mum has stage 4 cancer

Hi!
I am 22, from London and my Mum has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. They say it’s incurable, only manageable. She was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in 2016 and after surgery and radiotherapy the doctors said it had gone but we recently went for a check up after her 5 years were up and it’s spread. It’s now in her breast and liver. suspected thyroid and found a tumour in her appendix to.
im posting here because I’m scared. I’m scared of losing my mum i don’t know how much time we have.
my biggest support system was my partner who left me the day after my great uncles funeral who died of cancer as well, said i wasn’t grieving properly and was lashing out the day of the funeral. I’m overwhelmed and very lost.
sorry if this isn’t the forum for this, I just need some help

  • Hi Aishah01,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm so sorry to hear this - I can understand this must be a lot to process and deal with. No need to apologise, it's exactly what this forum is here for - a safe space to write things down and reach out to others who understand.

Hopefully you'll be able to get some more information soon about what to potentially expect, to help with understanding next steps.

Keep reaching out to others for support wherever you can, as it's important that you look after yourself and get this support too. I hope that this forum can be of some help to you. You may find it helpful to search the forum (using the bar at the top of the page) for other discussions and people to connect with, if you don't get more replies to your post here.

Aside from this, talk to other friends and family where you feel able to do so. There are also organisations such as Macmillan and Maggie's who offer various resources, helplines and local centres.

We are always here if you need it. Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
