Help to manage Adipsia (unable of being thirsty)

Hi All,

I am trying to help a friend's son that was diagnosed of a brain tumour and operated, but he suffers Adipsia (lack of thirst) and has been to A&E a couple of times due to dehydration.

I haven't found anything suitable online, if there is, please, tell me, so I don't have to follow the next step.

If there isn't anything, I can try to develop some kind of portable device, I have been involved in a few medical devices, and I think I can figure it out, my question is then, why nobody has done anything about it.

Thanks to everyone running this website.

  • I edited the post and I left out the most important part... Is there any portable device that alerts when the hydration level goes too low?

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, Erno.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's son's situation. Dealing with health challenges like the one you described can indeed be very difficult.

Regarding your search for solutions online, it's understandable that you're looking for information to assist your friend's son. Developing a portable device to help monitor hydration levels could potentially be a valuable contribution, especially given your experience in medical device development.

As you asked for advice I thought I might link you to a page from our website with general information on dehydration and cancer. Not exactly what you asked, I understand, but I thought it might give you some starting points as you're investigating a solution. Alternativelly, feel free to ring our team of nurses and ask for suggestions. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on this freephone 0808 800 4040.

    I hope this helps.

All the best to you and your friend's son,

    Renata, Cancer Chat Moderator
