The lump found in my breast looks suspicious of cancer

Hello

was told yesterday that the lump found in my breast looks suspicious of cancer, was told looks like stage 2, but have to wait 2 weeks to confirm and which type. I was on my own and broke down!!! I’ve told my sister but I’m so afraid to tell the rest of my family. Doesn’t feel real! I have so many questions, where do I start?

  • Hello, it’s utterly shocking to be told you potentially have cancer. When I was called back for a second mammogram I rang up as was concerned I’d been recalled so quickly to be told it’s ’normal to be recalled’ so I went back on my own. I wish I’d taken someone from the start as I was told very quickly they strongly suspected breast cancer. Lucky as I was at the clinic most of the morning for repeat mammogram, ultra sound and biopsys i had time to call my sister who came for the last chat with the nurses. The 10 day wait for the results was the  longest of my life and in fact was actually a relief to receive my diagnosis as i then knew what i was dealing with and have a treatment plan.

I was afraid to tell people its completely up to you who tell, i found it helpful to tell a select trusted few who could update others as i found it emotionally exhausting to tell everyone.

Here's to a positive result for you x

  • Hi BRI,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear that your lump looks suspicious. This is always a great shock to hear on your first visit. However, it does prepare you somewhat for bad news when you return for your results. Most people don't tell family and friends until after they've had their results confirmed. It is normal to have to wait for your results, but this will feel like a very long two weeks!

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer and I was told that my lumps were suspicious straight away too. Unfortunately, they were right. I had the 2 bouts within a year of each other, but I still lead a busy and fulfilling life 14 years on. Can you bring someone with you to your results appointment? You will find it helpful to write down all of your questions and to take this with you to your next consultation. I do this before every visit, to ensure that I don't forget to ask anything important.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
