Colon Cancer

Hi

This morning I had an endoscopy in Manchester.

After the examination I was told I have Colon Cancer. Obviously a big shock to me but staff at hospital were fantastic to me.

Obviously a thousand things going through my mind. Some comments on the internet say only after the biopsy can they determine if it's cancer. I was told it was straight afterwards.

It was around 9cm big.

I have to go for a cat scan next week.

My question is how did the doctor know straight away.

Sorry for the long post, but just need someone to help me with these answers.

Male 57

Many thanks

  • Hello Jip007,

A big welcome to our forum. I am sorry you were told immediately that you have colon cancer. I hope that the CT scan next week will give you further details and that you find out more. I am not sure myself how they knew straight away but I would suggest you give our cancer nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they will I am sure be able to tell you more about the diagnosis process for colon cancer and they will be happy to help you and answer your questions. They also have an Ask the Nurses topic area which you are welcome to use if you have any medical queries.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have been diagnosed with colon cancer and that they will be able to tell you more about how they were themselves diagnosed.

You must be feeling still under the shock of a diagnosis and I just wanted you to know you are not alone and we are there for you at a time when there is no doubt a lot for you to process.

    Best wishes,
