I was diagnosed with WM in October 23 and started chemo in Dec 23. Just can't sleep. Mind won't shut down. I'm exhausted, alone and scared.

Hello KikiLe,
I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis and I hope that the chemotherapy treatment has been going well. There is nothing worse than not being able to sleep as this will inevitably have a detrimental effect on your physical and emotional wellbeing. It's a horribly feeling to be lying in bed, unable to drift off to sleep with the mind unable to shut down. You must be feeling exhausted day and night.
Our website has valuable information on insomnia and cancer which explains how insomnia can truly interfere with your quality of life and it is common as a result to feel that you also have poor concentration, irritability and you may also feel you cannot cope. You will find some tips to help you get to sleep which I hope will help - you may have tried some of these before but it's worth trying everything to see what works for you.
If you are worried about disturbed sleep, feel free talk to your doctor or specialist nurse who will have some good suggestions for you and may be able to recommend counselling or cognitive behavioural therapy to treat insomnia. I hope the information on our website will help a little and don't hesitate to reach out to our cancer nurses too - they can give advice about who can help you and what kind of support is available. You can call them on freephone 0808 800 4040 Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
Talking to people on the forum who have had similar experiences can help too. Many members of our community have struggled with insomnia and they may have some good tips and suggestions for you based on their personal experiences.
I hope that things improve for you and that you get some rest soon and that your quality of sleep improves significantly in the coming days and weeks. Do talk to your GP about it I am sure it will make a big difference and give you some good strategies so you can sleep well again.
Best wishes,
