Scared

I was diagnosed with Stage 1 ER+ by a routine mammogram.  I’ve had the op & 5 lots of radiotherapy and all good.  I’ve been on Tamoxifen for six weeks.  I’ve always been a heavy drinker and I’m still struggling and I’m so scared I’ve already caused a reoccurrence.  Every day makes me feel I’m wasting my chances of keeping it away.

  • Hello GotThis123

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been through treatment for breast cancer. It's good to know that this stage of your treatment has been completed and that physically you've recovered well.

Many people worry about their chances of reoccurrence after an initial cancer diagnosis and treatment. It's a very common thing that we see posted about here on the forum and is often something that people learn to live with as time passes. Sometimes it can help to talk to someone such as a cancer support worker at Maggie's or by taking a course such as the Breast Cancer Now Moving Forward course. Do talk to your breast care nurse about the support options that are available in your area.

As you've mentioned in your post you're concerned about your alcohol intake this is something that you can proactively address to try and improve your health. The NHS website has some information about alcohol support but a good place to start is by making an appointment with your GP. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support they can to help you make some healthy lifestyle changes and offer you some reassurance about things.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
