New here: I had lung cancer in 2020 and now have a small tumour in my kidney

Hi all ...I had lung cancer in 2020 which was removed by surgery and no further treatment. I now have a small tumour in my kidney just under 3cm discovered when I had my scan to check my lungs...my urologist said he is 80% sure its cancer and referred me for surgery. Surgeons are now saying they want a biopsy as it could have come from my lung....ithink mets from lung to kidney is so rare that they are wrong. I have refused biopsy and said I want to go straight for surgery. I just want it out..Im finding it so stressful. I lost my sister 2 yrs ago to cancer and my brother is fighting stage 4 pancreatic cancer...this is all just too much. Do you think they could refuse surgery?

  • Hello FARMERJAX,

I can understand why you would want to go straight for surgery but it might be worth discussing with the specialist whether they think having a biopsy would be useful and if you could go straight for the surgery. I am not sure whether they could refuse surgery and how they think it would be best to proceed but this is definitely something you could raise with them to see what the best course of action would be. Feel free to give our cancer nurses a call too on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and I am sure they will be happy to advise you or give you some helpful suggestions.

I am so sorry for your loss - this is indeed a lot to have to deal with, losing your sister 2 years ago to cancer and your brother fighting stage 4 pancreatic cancer while you are also going through all this. I just wanted you to know that you are not alone and you will hopefully hear from other members of our community who have been affected by cancer in a similar way. I hope you won't mind but I have edited your title slightly to include more details about your diagnosis. This will make it easier for others who have been in a similar situation before to find your message and share their story with you.

I hope that you will get an opportunity to talk to the surgeons or specialists about your options and that you will find the best possible solution. Do let us know if you get a chance what you end up deciding and I hope that it all goes well for you.

    Best wishes,
