BCC

Hi, I have just been diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma and finding it hard to form a perspective on this.  I’ve been told not to worry about it as from what I can tell it is probably the mildest form of cancer, but we are conditioned to worry when we hear the “C” word and therefore the natural reaction is to worry.  My mind is confused and stuck between two contradictory states of worry and don’t worry.  If anyone has a similar experience it would be great to hear from you.  Thanks

  • Hello RNB

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma. I know how worrisome the word cancer can be and it's understandable that you may be experiencing some conflicting emotions.

Basal cell carcinoma is a non-melanoma skin cancer and it may help to try and keep in mind that the cure rates for non-melanoma skin cancers are very high. We have some information about skin cancer on our website that you might find helpful.

Have the hospital team given you any indication about the treatment they are recommending or a time frame for when this may start? Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the next steps in this journey but in the meantime, I wonder if you might find it helpful to talk things through with one of our nurses. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information, and support they can to help reassure you. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that things progress smoothly for you RNB. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
