Breast cancer recurrence

Hi all. I had breast cancer 14years ago, (it was triple neg) then a mastectomy,  followed by 6 months chemo, followed by a genetic test, (I have Brca 2) I then had a second mastectomy and 5 reconstruction operations.  Had the sentinel node removed at the time of the first mastectomy,  and it was clear. My mum had BC, 30 years ago, no chemo, just tamoxifen, and her cancer returned within 2 years, as brain tumours. Her first indication was that she kept vomiting, couldn't keep much food down, and I am finding this is now happening to me. Been feeling nauseous off and on, for a couple of years, but my gp couldn't get to the bottom of it. I had my gall bladder out 2years ago (gallstones), But lately just started being sick for no apparent reason, and although my gp has run a battery of tests, we are still no further forward. I have no other tumour symptoms,  like headaches etc, so am I being paranoid?

Should perhaps mention that I have had Ovarian Cancer too, but it resonded well to chemo, and a trial drug, Avastin, and have had no sign of it for the last 8years. Plus, there is a blood marker for it, CA125, which has been a reassuring  5 for several years now. Dont think there is one for bc.  (Dont really understand why/not?)

I'm guessing head scans are not very good to have, but I don't know else will give me any peace of mind, any ideas anyone?

Love

  • I'm sorry to hear you have been sick lately Cherrypie and for the worries you have about this possibly being a sign that your cancer has returned.

I know it must be difficult and very frustrating not knowing what is causing this, but it's reassuring to hear that all the tests your GP has carried out so far have brought good news.

I hope you receive some support and advice from our members soon but if you'd like to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.
