diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer - chemotherapy starting on Friday

Hi, my name is Rita
I have been diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer that has spread to the pelvic area and lymph nodes. My chemotherapy starts next Friday. A bit of a a scary time but trying to keep positive. Hope everyone is ok. Nice to meet you all.

  • Hello Rita and a very warm welcome to our forum!

Today is the day when you are meant to have started your chemotherapy after being diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer so I thought I would drop you a line to check how it went for you? I hope that the treatment went well and that you won't suffer adverse side effects. Our website has information on chemotherapy for ovarian cancer which I hope you will find useful and if you have any questions about chemotherapy or your diagnosis, you can talk to Cancer Research UK's information nurses on freephone 0808 800 4040, from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday so don't hesitate to give them a call at any time.

I hope you won't mind but I have changed the title of your thread so that it is easy to spot immediately by others who have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and this will therefore make it more likely that you will receive relevant responses.

It is indeed a bit of a scary time for you and it is normal to struggle to keep positive but I just wanted you to know that you are not alone and others on this forum are currently facing a stage 4 ovarian cancer diagnosis and I hope that they will be along shortly to share their experiences with you. Only a few days ago,  posted this thread and mentioned having been diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer so don't hesitate to drop her a line if you wish to do so and share your story on her thread.  also posted very recently her ovarian cancer thread where she mentions being diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer and she also was going to need chemotherapy so I think you might have quite a few things to say to one another. It helps to connect to others who are in a similar place and I hope that you will get to meet some of our lovely members who have also been affected by stage 4 ovarian cancer.

How are you feeling tonight after your chemotherapy? Or is it happening next Friday?

Best wishes and best of luck for your treatment,

  • Hi Lucie, thank you for your message. Chemo is next Friday. My wig fitting is on Wednesday and I’m looking forward to that. Being very new to this if I’m honest I don’t really know what to say. I suppose I don’t really know how I feel either. Thanks Rita

Hi Rita, just wanted to wish you well for your wig fitting and first chemotherapy session next week. You've probably been directed to Maggie's but just in case you haven't, they provide good support during treatment.

  • Hi I too have stage 4 ovarian cancer. Debulking surgery done at the beginning of December with chemo started January. I have just had my 3rd treatment and 3 more to go. CT scan after that to see if any development.

I too had my wig fitting prior to starting chemo. I tend to wear that outside the house when its not the weather for a woolly hat. Also bought some lovely soft hats with pretty coloured bands for inside.

Wishing all the luck in the world on this horrendous journey xx
