New to forum - possible Adenocarcinoma

Hi. I’m new to this site but not new to cancer unfortunately. In 2006 I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin Lymphoma which was successfully treated by CHOP chemotherapy. In 2013 I underwent a hysterectomy for endometrial cancer and now 2024 I’m waiting to see what my staging and treatment is going to be for lung cancer. The tests I’ve undergone within the last 2 weeks have been a Lung Function Test, a PET Scan and today I underwent a percutaneous lung biopsy.

My current cancer manifested itself in August 2023 when I coughed up a little blood. Being Saturday I messaged 111 and received a call back from a doctor within half an hour. He sent me straight to A&E where I underwent an X-ray which showed a shadow. I was treated for “walking” pneumonia, given antibiotics and sent home with after being told that I would receive an appointment for a CT scan which I underwent in October. The shadow was still there so I then underwent a bronchial wash which showed an E Coli infection but no cancer cells so I was given more antibiotics which the E Coli wouldn’t be resistant to and sent home with the understanding that it wasn’t cancer but that another CT scan would be carried out in around 8 weeks time. I underwent this on the 3rd February and on the 5th I received a call to attend the respiratory department on the 8th……and the rest, as they say is history.

The suspicion is that I have Adenocarcinoma. So here I am waiting for the board of Drs to sit once the results of all my procedures are collated and for them to decide upon a treatment plan. I have an appointment for the 7th March to find out what my fate will be. It’s been a long time since August 19th 2023.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, Vascodagama.

I'm sorry to hear about your story and the uncertainty you're facing with your current diagnosis of lung cancer. It's clear that you've been through a lot, and waiting for test results and treatment plans can be incredibly challenging. That being said, it's commendable how proactive you've been in seeking medical attention and undergoing necessary tests to determine the cause of your symptoms.

While it's difficult, try to focus on taking things one step at a time and finding ways to cope with the uncertainty. Surround yourself with supportive friends and family, and don't hesitate to reach out to healthcare professionals for additional support during this time.

We have others here on the forum who have gone through a similar experience and who will understand exactly how you're feeling right now so I hope you get a chance to speak with some of them very soon. In the meantime, if you feel that speaking to someone with a medical background might help, please know our team of nurses are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on this freephone 0808 800 4040.

    With best wishes,

  • Thank you for your reply and kind words. I find it helps to keep busy and I try to carry on with life much the same as previous. It’s very early days so I’m not sure how this will ‘pan out’ but I have a lovely support network around me who, I’m sure, find it equally as difficult to cope with. X
