Started immunotherapy for melanoma

Hi on Wednesday i started a double whammy of two.sorts of immunotherapy. This has to work as they cant operate where its spread to.  Bloody melanoma

  • Hello Goldcrest and a big welcome to Cancer Chat,

How did the immunotherapy treatment go for you on Wednesday? I really hope that it works well for you and I am so sorry to hear that they cannot operate where the melanoma has spread to which is rather unfortunate. I thought I would share with you some information we have on our website on targeted cancer drugs and immunotherapy for melanoma which I hope you will find helpful and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ring our nurse helpline on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I will also mention our lovely  who knows a thing or two (or three!) about melanoma and I hope that she will be able to offer you some helpful advice or just to share her own melanoma experience. She will definitely sympathise with your "bloody melanoma" comment :) Hopefully you will meet other members of our community who have been affected by melanoma. Have a look too at the MelanomaUK website which might also be a good source of support and specialised information.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you Lucie for your kind words x

  • Hi Goldcrest,

I'm sorry to hear you have melanoma & that it's unresectable. Which dual immunos have you been started on? Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones that have little or no side effects and who the treatment has great results for.

  • Hi im on ipilimumab and nivolumab. Both ridiculous things to spell. I had a melanoma on my bum  in 2019. Removed safely. But then 2 yrs later a lump appeared on the scar and turned out to be Braf possitive cancer. Did 13months of chemo tablets. Then 2 yrs later a routine CT found a lump in  my lung. A stage 4 melanoma. It was successfully removed. Had a scan january znd got results the its spread to my lymph nodes in my thorax and cany operate xx

  • Sorry to hear that. Targeted treatment is known to work well but it doesn't last a long time & then immunotherapy is used. I've sent you a friend request - if you accept it we can chat by private message.  xx
