small dimple/dent.

Hello.
Im a 26 year old mum and suffer from OCD (health anxiety).
I’ve had issues with galactorrhea. my breast still produce milk especially my left one.

January this year I was checking my breast and I noticed a small dimple/dent kinda thing on my left breast but I only seen it because I was using a flashlight from my phone ( I know strange) I could only see it from my perspective looking down but in the mirror I can’t see anything without my flashlight. I immediately thought the worse and become very depressed, I went to my GP they couldn’t see anything and examination was fine, I tried to use my phone flashlight to show them and they’ve reassured me. I decided to take pictures of it because it’s not noticeable at all, can’t see anything. so I’ve taken pictures which you can slightly notice but not all the time. showed my Dr they reassured me it’s just my breast tissue and I shouldn’t be worried. Been to my GP 5 times in the last few weeks with the same concern, showed pictures, had examination and it’s always the same thing, they can’t see or feel it.
I got seen last week Thursday 8th feb told everything was fine, I couldn’t help but feel like I ain’t being heard. so I booked another one and I have to wait to be seen in 2 weeks.
I feel like because of my OCD anxiety I’m not being heard or taken seriously.

should I asked to be referred to the breast unit? sorry for sounding weird or crazy.

  • Hello tati,

Don't worry you definitely don't sound weird or crazy - so many members of our community have been in a similar place before worrying after noticing something unusual on their breast. It's important to check our breasts regularly and you did well to flag this with your GP but it does sound like they are not concerned and as you have been to the GP 5 times in the last few weeks I think you can be reassured. I am not sure whether you always saw the same doctor but in a case like this where you are still feeling worried or concerned that you are not being taken seriously because of your health anxiety, it wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion and be seen by a different GP and you can find out more about this on this page.

You could mention that it would reassure you to be seen at the breast clinic and they will be able to tell you whether they deem this necessary or if they are sure you don't need to be referred.

I hope that you manage to speak to someone soon about your fears and anxiety and that you will get the reassurance you need.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi,

thank you for getting back to me. I’ve been seen my a different Dr each time and they’ve all told me the same thing, my examination is normal and no skin changes. I try to show them what I see in the pictures and try to point out where on my breast I can see the dimple, but they have reassured me it’s noting sinister.
but sometimes I can’t help but feel like their not listening to me or understanding.
I may ask to me seen in the breast clinic just for the reassurance I need.
I’m currently on antidepressants for depression and anxiety, which is getting worse.

    thank you again.
