Scared and wondering

I found a lump in my boob a few weeks back. Went to gp was referred to breast screening clinc at the hospital Monday the 5th had a mammogram and then ultrasound then core biopsy.

Was told they think it's a fibroadenoma but wanted to do the biospy anyway.  I've lost quite alot of weight and have had loads and loads of blood work done recently so I wasn't overly worried cause I figured surely if something was wrong the blood tests would have shown some indicator for something sinister.

Then today I get a letter asking me to go back to the hospital on the 5th march but to the ngs macmillan unit which is a different part of the hospital so that part has freaked me pit a little cause I assumed I'd go back to the breast cancer/screening unit for biospy results or my gp would ring. Does anyone have any experience or know why I would be being told to go to macmillan unit.

Many thanks for your help x

  • Hello Jml

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some concerns about your breast health recently. You did exactly the right thing in seeing your GP and it's good to know that you've already had an initial appointment at the screening clinic.

We know that sometimes the language that is used in appointment letters can leave people feeling anxious. Try not to worry too much at this point. It could be as simple as the initial tests being carried out in one clinic and results being given by a different department somewhere else.

Hopefully when you go for your appointment next month they will be able to give you some reassurance about the biopsy results but in the meantime, if you think it may help to talk things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and support they can.

Keep in touch Jml and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
