Mistrust

I have lung cancer. I was booked to have a treatment called CyberKnife, very modern, not invasive, very high success rate, lasting only one week. Just3 days before it was due to start I had a phone call to tell me it was not happening and  I was getting a whole month of radiotherapy instead. Suddenly someone had found some reason. I am now utterly bewidered and very down.Lost faith in the process. It’s an 80 mile round trip daily for me. Bit different from the original project.

  • Hello Hilkin

I'm sorry to hear that the original treatment plan has been changed at very short notice and with no explanation given. It's perfectly understandable that you are feeling bewildered and have lost faith in the process.

Were you given details of a nurse specialist you could contact after your diagnosis? If so, do get in touch with them and tell them how you're feeling and that you'd like some clarity on why these changes were made.

If you don't have details for a nurse specialist then you can contact the Patient Advice and Liaison team (PALS) whose role is to help resolve concerns or problems when you're using the NHS.

If travelling to and from the appointments is going to be difficult then do speak to the hospital team or your GP who will be able to advise what options may be available in your area to help with this.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses for some advice and support you're most welcome to call them. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that treatment goes smoothly for you Hilkin and that you're able to get some reassurance about these changes.

    Best wishes,
