Emotional on last chemo

I  was diagnosed with Stage 3 Bowel Cancer on 5th October 2023 , I still cannot believe this is happening to me. I have been having chemo fortnightly since November and coped very well. I have no pain , all other health problems have gone , my family and friends have been amazing.

I have  a PICC line in my arm but found that very traumatic having that inserted.

Had my last chemo on 26th January, last week and I am just so emotional , usually I sleep a lot after chemo but this time , think I had been worrying about my CT scan that I had today .

i will know next week if tumour has shrunk and will have a date for op. I will most likely have the op 4 to 6 weeks after so it will be nice to have a break from chemo, I am hoping I feel more stronger also and this is just a blip as I have been so positive and have lots to look forward to but think my body has just had enough.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Gogo- and congratulations on finishing your last chemo.

It's completely understandable to be feeling like this when finishing a treatment, especially when you know further tests are needed to find out if it has been successful, so be kind to yourself as living with cancer can be physically and mentally, very draining.

Hopefully some of our members who have had similar experiences will be along soon to offer their thoughts and advice but if you feel it may help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very supportive and will do all they can to help.

We're sending all our strength your way Gogo- and wishing you all the best for next week.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
