Joining your forum - Just been diagnosed with CLL, would like to know more

Hi, I've just had CLL confirmed.  Waiting for ct scan now. I'm optimistic that because it's early stages and I do not need treatment  my prognosis is pretty good

Would like to know more about this. I'm in my 80s BTW.

  • I'm almost 72, diagnosed officially January 23. My bloods weren't too bad, but my lymph nodes, particularly in my arm pits kept growing until my consultant decided that I needed treatment in September.   I opted for the more invasive treatment for a year, rather than tablets for ever.  Started in December and after an initial wobble, I'm doing fine.

Everyone is different on this journey,  some people are on Watch and Wait for years, but treatments are improving all the time, and the future looks good.

My consultant says I will die with this, not of it, as there isn't a cure, but it can be managed.

I was a bit of an emotional wreck when I was diagnosed.  My mother was actively dying, and the words Leukaemia and Cancer hit me hard.  My GP referred my to a counsellor who was a huge help and I would recommend counselling if you get stressed at any time.

    Good luck

  • Thank you for your helpful reply.

I've high WBC but no lymph node swelling.. the wait and watch is my route at the moment.

I did feel quite emotional yesterday. I had a lovely talk with my son..very helpful and understanding which was helpful. .  As you say, when you hear those words it suddenly becomes real. I have good friends and family to help.

I just at the moment feel I'm going to get on with my life while I'm able. I'm  fortunate to be quite active and can get out and about  and walk my dog etc.

Thanks again for your very helpful message. Wishing you good luck too.
