Diagnosed with stage 4 clear cell ovarian carcinoma

Hello to you all

I was diagnosed 15 Dec with stage 4 clear cell cancer spread to lung, abdomen and lymph nodes. Despite expecting it after all I had been advised, & scans etc nothing prepares you for the diagnosis.

I am on chemo (carboplatin paclitaxel and avastin) had 2 rounds with rough side effects. After 3rd round I will have surgery if the chemo is working, which ofcourse is such an anxious time. More chemo and radiotherapy will follow.

I would like to chat with anyone else diagnosed at this late stage. I havent asked about prognosis. Trying to take each day as it comes & be as positive & hopeful as possible .

  • Hello Kazzy-H,

I am so sorry to hear about your stage 4 clear cell ovarian cancer diagnosis - I can imagine it was a bit of a shock to you and I hope that the chemotherapy treatment is successful despite the difficult side effects you experienced. It does sound like an intensive treatment plan, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery and I hope that it will work well for you.

You are right not to think too much about prognosis as it is very hard to estimate anyway in any accurate form so it's best to do exactly what you have said and take each day as it comes and try and talk to others here who have had a similar diagnosis. I've had a little look on the forum and I found another member who was keen to talk to others with a clear cell ovarian cancer diagnosis.   was also diagnosed last month at stage 3 and she was also going to have chemotherapy in January. You can read her story on this page and don't hesitate to reply and share your own experience - I think you two could be a great source of support for one another.

We're thinking of you during this difficult time as you are going through this intensive treatment regime and I just wanted to let you know that our nurses are available on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. Don't hesitate to drop them a line if you have any questions or there is anything you would like to talk through with them.

Keep being strong - you are not alone here and I hope that other members of our community who have been affected by clear cell ovarian carcinoma will come and say hello and share their story with you.

    Best wishes,
