Waiting 3 weeks for biopsy

Hi everyone

in between Xmas and new year I went to docs with a lump in right breast.
In 2020 I had a mammogram and ultrasound on same breast for nipple discharge however that was duct ectasia.
anyway I went to docs with another lump and was put on 2 week referral. I’m 47 and my mum has previously had breast cancer.

so on the 8th Jan went for mammogram and ultrasound. The lump was a fluid filled cyst that was drained but the ultrasound picked up dilated ducts, calcifications and the doc said when they pulled fluid from my ducts it wasn’t clear like it should be but it was dirty??? And so did a core biopsy

anyway here I am 3 weeks later and still haven’t had results back. Doc said I’d get a letter saying one of 3 things but the wait is now horrible, has anyone else waited over 3 weeks

  • Hi Shelley.

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear that you have been waiting so long for results. Some tests do take longer than others and it can also take longer to get results from some clinics than others. Why not phone your consultant's secretary and ask if they are back yet?

Even when they come back to the hospital, there can be a delay before you find out. This is because all cases will be discussed at a multidisciplinary team (MDT) meeting, before you are told. This is a meeting of all the professionals, who are likely to be involved in your care. Here they decide whether or not this is cancer and, if so, what to do about it. This is always a horrible time and I hope that you hear something soon.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
