Breast cancer

Hi everyone I’m 37 and back end of last year I noticed a dimple in my breast and it was cancer I have had two operations and have been told the cancer has gone, but I’ve got to have chemotherapy and radiotherapy  my first app is on Friday to go threw things im feeling more scared now than when I got told I had cancer I know I need to ask questions but am confused and don’t know what should be asking, can anyone help me please xxx

  • Hi I’m 42 and have breast cancer too. I had it the opposite way around and had chemo first. If you are worried about losing your hair ask them about using the cold cap and the wig service. I used the cold cap and it isn’t as scary as you think. If you can do the first 10 minutes you will be ok. Ask them how long it will take and how it will be administered. It could be through a drip or the nurse can do it through a syringe. It will depend on the type. Also ask them about having a port/pic line fitted. If you are going weekly it will be more comfortable then having a cannula put in every time. Ask them about medication when you return home and how to mange any discomfort you may have. I would advise wearing comfy clothes and take a jumper as it makes you feel cold. Drink lots of water the day before is another great tip.
Hope it all goes well. X

  • Hi thank you for your reply xx

  • Hi Emma,

I have been thinking of you today and I hope that all went well. Questions will crop up as you have your treatment. You may find it helpful to write them down, as it's all too easy to forget what they were before your next session.

I hope that you get through this without any set backs and that you won't find it so scary once you get into the routine.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi love my appointment isn’t till tommorow I’m nervous and scared I’ve just been sat writing questions I want to ask if I don’t I’ll forget and there’s probably things I will forget to ask

    thanks jolamine xxx

  • Hi Emma,

Sorry - I'm a day ahead of myself for some reason. I shall still be thinking of you tomorrow and hope that all goes well. It's always a good idea to go to any appointment armed with a list of questions. What you forget to ask tomorrow, you can always ask at your next appointment. If it is an urgent question, your breast care nurse is always at the end of the phone line.

Remember, that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you hunny means a lot xxx

  • Hi Emma,

How did you get on today - do you feel better now that you've got some questions answered?

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Emma,

If there's anything that you still want to know, don't hesitate to phone your breast care nurses. You usually have to leave a message, but they'll get back to you as soon as they can and can be very helpful.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
