Struggling with moving on and pain

I had an inverted nipple and lump, got checked really quick and have had lumpectomy and lymph node removal, HER2 neg so only needed radiotherapy which I completed 31st October 2024. I had only been taking HRT for couple months beforehand and was told to stop taking as my cancer was ER PR positive... Couple weeks after end treatment the pain in my arm was horrible, jumped from GP to oncologist then breast care nurse, to finally get checked, recons not Lymphoedema so advised physio... with added stress of osteoarthritis in wrists and ongoing joint problems in legs, it's a struggle to move on... I know I should be elated to get through cancer but I don't know how to feel and trying everything to move on

  • Hello AllieP

I'm sorry to hear about all that you've been through and that you're now struggling with joint pain. It's understandable that you're struggling at the moment.

Were you prescribed any medication by the hospital after your surgery such as Letrozole or Tamoxifen? These are commonly prescribed to women who have an ER+ cancer diagnosis and we know that unfortunately, many women go on to experience some kind of joint pain with these medications. So I was wondering if this may be contributing to your symptoms.

If you have been prescribed one of these medications, it's always worth going back to your GP and breast care nurse to talk things through as some women find they get on better with a different brand of medication or a different type of medication. So there are options to consider. Your GP should also be able to help with finding medication to better manage your pain.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses for some advice and support you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I do hope that things improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
