Awaiting final test results and treatment plan

Hi. I've just joined the group. I'm 68 and in October spotted slight bleeding on my pants. A visit to my GP started the ball rolling with a referral to oncology. CT scan, ultrasound, MRI, blood tests and biopsy showed up 2 ovarian cysts, one quite large.  The medical staff were hopeful they wouldn't be cancerous but a hysterectomy on 2nd January showed otherwise. Preliminary histology showed the cancer as stage 1a, was only in one cyst, and not anywhere else but I'm still awaiting further results to advise the next course of action. I have an appointment on 30th January when I'll find out. I'm trying to be optimistic that all will be well but I wonder if I'm burying my head in the sand. If I think too deeply, I'll start crying and never stop.

  • Hello CraftyCow and welcome to the forum although obviously I'm sorry to hear about the reasons that have led you to join.

It sounds as if things have gone quite quickly and smoothly between your initial symptoms and the surgery. It's good to hear that the preliminary histology results brought some good news and hopefully at your appointment next week the team will be able to give you some further reassurance.

Keeping a positive mindset it very important during this period of waiting and uncertainty. Worrying won't change the results but keeping busy and trying to think positively can help the time pass more quickly and you will certainly feel better.

I know that many people find it helpful to talk things through with someone while they're waiting for results and information. If you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and support they can as well as help you think about any questions you might want to ask at your appointment.

I hope that next week brings you some good news CraftyCow. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
