Miss Concerned - worried about a mole

Hi this is my first post

I i sadly lost my mum 13 yrs ago to perataneal ovarian cancer.

she was about to turn 69, 5 yrs down the line i had cancer of the brain but all good now after operation and intense radiology..

i have discovered a mole just at the top right corner of my lady area i saw a dermatologist whom said it wasn’t cancerous but i am so worried that it could turn into cancer i just feel with everything going on at the moment in the world  i feel uncertain about the NHS… i know how good they can be but at this trying and difficult times errors can be made..

Any Thoughts??

  • Hi Janemu,

I can understand your anxiety with everything you are going through and it's natural to question whether the right medical decision has been made.

Dermatologists are highly trained although it's not unusual for the odd patient to find their mole wasn't benign as first thought. If you are worried enough to take it further you can always ask for a second opinion, however this may be difficult to get on the NHS and may require a private dermatology appointment (if you can afford the consultation fee). If you see a private consultant & they suggest the mole be removed to ensure if it's OK, you can ask for it to be done on the NHS and you will be transferred back to NHS care.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)
