Metastatic Cancer

Hi there,

I hope everyone is doing okay or as well as one can be under some circumstances. I just wanted to chat to some people who might be going through a similar situation to me. I was diagnosed with breas cancer back in October 2010. I had a lumpectomy which wasn’t enough so had a mastectomy followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy then medication for 10 years. This past year I have been suffering f m a sore back which I thought was a muscle pain but I have just been diagnosed with a metastatic cancer which they are treating as breast cancer because that’s where I had it initially. I thought my ime was up when they said it was inoperable. I have it in my spine and have a couple of broken vertebrae. I just wondered if anyone else has a similar issue. Thank you for reading this and wish ever ne the very very best . love and hugs x

  • Hi Linda-loo,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry to hear about your latest diagnosis and to learn that it is inoperable. Do you know what type of breast cancer you originally had and what stage it was? Is it still treatable and, if so, what treatment is being considered?

I am 14 years down the line from 2 bouts of breast cancer, within a year of each other. I had a lumpectomy first time around and a double mastectomy for the second bout. I have just had another 2 CT scans - 1 for body and 1 for brain. This was because I have been taking tremors and falling regularly and I also have problems in my lumbar area. The results have come back as "no cancer", but with no further explanation. I was given much more information when I had a MRI for the same symptoms, 4 years ago. I am currently waiting to get the full CT report and hoping that my back is still ok, as there was no mention of this in the results sent to the hospital, or to my GP.

There was an interesting post on the forum recently from someone with terminal cancer. She said that she thinks of it in the same was as any chronic illness and not as a death sentence. This is a sensible way to look at such news, as treatments are now so much more effective than they used to be.

I know how worrying this all is for you and I am always here if you want to talk.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

    many thanks for your reply.

I honestly don’t know what the original cancer was considered or at what stage. It was always just described as treatable although aggressive.

i am about to start a radiotherapy course although not sure how long etc as I have not seen that department yet.

I am. Also receiving injections every 4 weeks for strengthening the bones. Plus I am starting chemotherapy pills once radiotherapy has finished.

I seriously hope that your CT scan brings positive results for you .

I again thank you so much for replying to my email. Hugs xx

  • Hi Linda-loo,

It certainly doesn't sound as if your time is up, and it is good to hear that there are still a number of treatment options available.

I hope that the radiotherapy and chemo tablets work well.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on and remember, that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
