Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer, Grade II

Hello,

I went in for a routine mammogram screening first time on December 4th. I was called back for further assessment on December 15th. I had further mammogram screening, ultrasound and biopsy taken on my left breast. The radiologist said it would be either radial scar or cancer. I asked her what  was likely to be from the shape, size and characteristic based on her expertise and experience, she said she was 90% positive it was cancer but in the back of her mind there was a slim chance that it might be radial scar. She reassured me that it was small and she was not worried when she saw the scan.  I felt profoundly sad and start dealing with the situation then. I was called  in for the biopsy result which confirmed that I have Grade II invasive lobular cancer and I will need further MRI scan because the cancer may spread further and was not detected by the mammogram and ultrasound. Since then I became conscious with every ache and pain I have had during the past two years (e.g. lumbar pain, pelvic pain, and shoulder pain). I feel like I am back to where I was before and expected the worst would happen. I will have MRI scan tomorrow and get the result the next day, which is also the same day I will see the consultant. Thank you so much for giving me the platform to talk about this.

  • Hello,

A very warm welcome to our forum,

I am sorry to hear about your concerns and hope that your MRI today will not find any spread. Getting a cancer diagnosis always comes as a terrible shock and it takes some time for it to sink in. You are going through the worst stage at the moment, where you don't really know the full story and you will feel better once you find out, As soon as we get a diagnosis, we start to think that every little ache and pain is linked to this, but pain doesn't usually accompany breast cancer.

I am glad to hear that you don't have long to wait for your MRI results and that you will also see your consultant then.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you so much for all kind words and encouragements. I had a meeting with the consultant who discussed the MRI results with me. The MRI doesn’t show further spread in the area that was initially diagnosed but it shows an enhanced area underneath my left breast so this area needs further investigation. I am now waiting for my second ultrasound appointment. I am okay with this. I appreciate that the surgery team is taking necessary precautions. It is confirms that the cancer is estrogen and progesterone positive and HER2 negative. The surgery team was very kind and patient. I still anxious but there is a sense that things may not be as bad as I previously thought. x

  • Oh I’m er and pr positive and Her2 negative also. Great news :) x

  • Thank you, Kirsty. The nurse said it is a good thing so I take her words for it. x

  • Definitely hun good luck with your tests x

  • Hi,

I'm sorry to hear that you need another ultrasound, but glad that your care team are being so thorough. The nurse was quite right Er and PR+ and Her2 negative are all good news, as well as the fact that your MRI doesn't show any further spread.  I hope that you get your ultrasound soon, as these additional tests make it a long waiting time.

Please let us know how your ultrasound goes. Remember that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
