Borderline Ovarian Cyst

Hi everyone

I am 55yrs and in October 2023 was diagnosed with a borderline cyst in my left ovary. I was diagnosed under NHS and they wanted to operate first to remove my ovaries and then once this would be sent to pathology then if it came back working they would operate a second time to take away my uterus. I was fortunate that I have private medical insurance and decided to go private for my surgery. During the surgery they took my ovaries out and whilst I was “under anaesthetic “ they sent to the lab. They decided that wasn’t worried enough to take out my uterus so left it.

My private surgeon said I will now need regular 3 monthly scans and maybe other tests which would become less frequent for the next 10 years (like a cancer patient) so I need to get back onto the NHS system. I  having a hard time getting a referral to the Gynaecology Oncology but have been offered an ultrasound. I am not sure this is correct and feel maybe I am being neglected. Has anyone got any similar experience or have any advice to put me at ease please? Thanks

  • Hello Susiel

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently undergone some tests and surgery but it's great to hear that the results didn't give any immediate cause for concern.

It's understandable that you're feeling a little concerned about how things will be monitored going forward. It may be worth giving our nurses a call to chat things through. I know they will be happy to offer any advice and information they can. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you're able to find the reassurance you need to move forward positively and wish you well with your continued health and recovery.

    Best wishes,
