Scared and worried

I have recently found a lump in my breast in the past few weeks, and have urgently been referred to the hospital.  I am now even more scared, although the gp did say they couldn't feel any other lumps and it feels really small.

  • HI Pandamum,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear about your symptoms and I know that this is a worrying wait, but you have done the right thing by getting it investigated.
Please don't worry about the urgent referral. This is the usual pathway for those with a lump. You will usually get your appointment through within 2 weeks from the date of referral, although you may have to wait a little longer for the actual date.

Are you aware that not all breast lumps are cancerous? Many turn out to be benign cysts, fibroadenoma, or due to hormonal changes. It is a fact that only 20% of those referred to the breast clinic will get a cancer diagnosis, so the odds are still good for you.

I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
