Breast clinic - Inverted nipple

Hi I’m sally, 29. I visited the GP yesterday as I’ve had a newly inverted nipple and have breast cancer history in the family. I’ve had a referral to the breast clinic and I’m there the 23rd January. I wondered if anyone else had been referred for an inverted nipple and could share there experience? Thank you x

  • HI Sally,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear about your symptoms. Although I've had 2 bouts of breast cancer, I did not have an inverted nipple, mine were both lumps. I am sure that some of the people who've had inverted nipples will be along soon. In the meantime, you might find it helpful to use the search forum box, at the top of this page, to find some of these people yourself. Feel free to join in any of the conversations that interest you. This is always an anxious wait. I know that it's tempting, but try to steer clear of Google, at this stage. Most of the information is based on the more spectacular cases, won't apply to you, won't give you any answers, but will scare you stiff.

I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found.

PIease keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi, I was referred last November with an inverted nipple, I also felt a lump but my GP wasn’t concerned and thought that was just normal lumpy tissue. My nipple wasn’t inverted all of the time and easily popped out. After a thorough examination, Ultrasound and Mammogram I was given the all clear and diagnosed with Duct Ectasia.

  • Hello, hope you are doing well . I had an inverted nipple and a hard area in my left breast in July 22 , unfortunately this turned out to be cancer . I had mastectomies and chemo ,everything went really well .Just had reconstructive surgery .
But ,with you it could be something diffferent ,so stay positive and keep in touch xxx

  • Thank you for your reply, did you have any symptoms around nearer your armpit area? The past few days I’ve noticed it’s swollen and the only way I can describe it is a “dull ache” as well as my inverted nipple. Glad everything went well for you and thank you so much for sharing your story xxxx

  • Hi, yes I have  a dull ache which comes and goes. I also had an indentation when I put my hands on my hips and flexed. I also had swelling which I think was due to me obsessively poking and prodding.  I was given the all clear, and told my symptoms were all due to my age (52) and duct ectasia. I hope you get good news too.

  • Hello Sally , I didn’t have any other symptoms . Just ,that morning in the shower ,I noticed the inverted nipple and when I started feeling around there was a hard area on the outer side of my breast as well . I was 60 at the time . Good luck now and keep in touch xx
