I'd not been too well since autumn 2022, symptoms were nausea, loss of appetite and a real struggle to eat. I was treated via GP phone calls for around 7 month for anxiety, prescribed antidepressants and beta blocker. I did have a history of acid reflux, but not for around 5 years. (I now understand that I've had "silent reflux")
I finally got to see a GP face to face who said they would send me for a gastroscopy "just to rule anything out". I had the first one in April this year, the results came back as a hiatus hernia (which I knew about from a previous scope) and Barret's Oesophagus.
Further scopes showed both mild and severe dysplasia. Late November I had an endoscopic resection (EMR) , I was called into the hospital at short notice, and alarm bells rang. When the biopsies came back they showed some cancer cells on my oesophagus. The consultant is confident it is contained (It's intra mucosal) but I'm having a CT scan in January to make sure there's no spread. Also another EMR to remove the cells.
I do realise that Barret's doesn't cause cancer, so I'm lucky it was picked up on a scope, most oesophageal cancers aren't found until well established.
Anyway, it's good to be able to chat, wishing you all well and as best a Christmas as we can all have
