My mum

My mum has just been diagnosed with skin cancer she's 51.

Obviously this is scary, but it's even scarier because all of our family have passed away with cancer, lung  breast, prostate, bone and cervical. All different ages. My grandad ( mum's dad) at 49..

I suppose what I'm asking ls what can I do too help her through this?

She's terrified as are we all, is there anything I should be doing for myself and my siblings too? I'm 27.

Thank you x

  • Hello Mummaclara

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis. It's naturally a worrying time for you all.

Do you know what type of skin cancer your Mum has been diagnosed with? If you do, we may be able to put you in touch with other members who have experience with the same diagnosis. In the meantime, we have some information on our website about non-melanoma skin cancer as well as information about melanoma skin cancer

It's understandable that you have some concerns about the family members that you have lost to different cancers and if there is anything you, and your siblings, should be doing. I would suggest making an appointment to speak to your GP in the new year about your concerns as they will be best placed to chat things through with you and discuss if genetic testing is appropriate.

If you'd like to chat with one of our nurses about your concerns they are back in the office 9am on Wednesday 27th December available on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
