Symptom concerns

Hi,

I know this is probably going to sound very dramatic but I feel like I'm boring my partner with my worries. I've had diarrhoea for years but the other month I saw a lot of bright red blood. I went to my gp  who done an abdominal exam - which was normal and not really painful. I had a FIT test, which was positive (41), bloods was fine bar 1 part of lft which was slightly elevated. Calprotectin test came back high, levels of 285 for inflammation. I've been referred for a colonoscopy. Dr unconcerned about cancer but its stressing me out. I'm only 31. The past 2 days I've noticed black specks in my stool as well.

Can anyone help settle my mind?

  • Hello AlexUK2919,

Do mention these newer symptoms in your next appointment, if you haven't already. When youre worried that you may have cancer, it can be tempting to think the worst, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. It's encouraging that your doctor is unconcerned, but you can read more on what to expect for your colonoscopy here

    Best wishes,
