Mother in law loves In Poland and has found a growth on Liver

Hi,

I would like some information about options in the UK or any alternative/unorthodox methods/stories about people overcoming or reducing liver cancer.

My mother in law (although not actually married) has found a 6.5cm growth on her liver. She is mid 60s. She is Polish and currently lives in Poland. She is having trouble getting seen by her GP who is supposed to arrange a biopsy however he is “very busy” and providing random periods of time which he is then not following through with. He is not being very supportive.

I have read a couple of stories about people changing diets and exercise which can help reduce the size but I’m struggling to actually speak to real people.

Does anyone know if she can be seen in the UK regarding the cancer? My partner has settlement status here but is of Polish nationality. My mother in law can come and move to the UK but this will take a bit of time which I’m not sure I have a lot of considering the size and location.

Does anyone have any advice?

Any help or communication would be appreciated.

  • No, she wouldn't be eligible for NHS treatment. You'd have to go private. Unless the person is a UK citizen, the NHS will only do emergency treatments e.g. plaster a broken arm, head injury etc that happened whilst on UK soil.

Even ex pats aren't eligible for free NHS treatments unless they have visited the UK within (i think it's this, but could be wrong) 5 years. NHS is a residence based service, and even if your MiL got resedency, her liver issue would be considered a pre exsisting condition. So still wouldn't get treatment free of charge. Not too disimilar to taking out insurance on something after it has broken, and trying to claim back a new one.
