Breast cancer hormone therapy

HI there.  If my consultant suggests hormone therapy for breast cancer I am concerned that some of them have side affects that affect your retina/ vision. I've had lazer surgery for a retinal tear in the past so want to avoid any further risks to vision.  Has anyone come across a hormone therapy for breast cancer that does not affect eyes? Thank you.

  • Hello Betty9125

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling worried about the potential side effects that hormone therapy may have on your vision. Given that you've previously had problems with your eyes it's understandable that you're concerned.

Unfortunately, I can't answer your question but it may be something that you'd like to chat through with one of our nurses ahead of your appointment with the Consultant. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice, information, and support they can as well as help you think about questions you might want to raise as well. If you'd like to chat things through with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that your appointment goes smoothly and the Consultant can give you some reassurance.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Betty,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I have taken both Tamoxifen and Letrozole for 2 cancers. I had eye problems with both and ended up having 5 eye operations. Fortunately, my sight has been restored to 20/20 vision after these operations, but it was scary at the time.

Make sure to discuss this with your consultant and I hope that you can find a solution.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
