  • Hi Tamaragold,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry to hear that you lost your mother to bowel cancer, but glad to hear that your father is still doing well after his surgery. This latest blow with your husband, must feel like the last straw. It is hard enough to receive a cancer diagnosis, without all the additional complications of moving house and your husband losing his job. This does seem especially unfair, especially, when you have been such a great supporter of cancer charities. Have you moved far away from family and friends? By the sound of things, you could really do with the support of these people now.

It takes time to build up relationships in a new area and this can be especially difficult, when a lot of your time has been spent tied to hospital. Do you have any siblings or a family of your own, who can support you at present? I have been in your position before and found it helpful to be able to drop in to Maggie's or the Haven and to have a friendly chat and a cuppa with other people, who had experienced, or were experiencing something similar themselves. I also got great help and support from the nurses and counsellors at these centres. It sounds as if you are worn down with what has been happening throughout the past 10 years and see no reprieve in sight. In amongst looking after your family members, you need to have some time for you. You are the main cog in this wheel and you can only be strong for so long. These centres also offer alternative therapies such as Reiki, Yoga, Aromatherapy and Reflexology, for example. Naturally, those who are suffering the brunt of cancer or Multiple Sclerosis treatment, have priority for these services, but relatives or friends also qualify. This can be a big help, when you feel stressed out.

These centres are dotted throughout the country and are available free of charge. If you don't have one of these nearby, there are other local charities, which you might find by talking to your GP, Practice Nurse, Local Hospital or Local Library. They may have different names, but most offer similar services. Now that you have found this site, you need never feel lonely again. Many of us here have walked in your shoes and we are always here for you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are feeling.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
