Hello

I attended my GP about an hour ago with breast issue's, after an examination told me there were 3 differences between my breasts symmetry, inflamed hardness and orange skin, I have been urgently referred to a breast clinic. I’ve not faced what may be cancer before and I am terrified.
some soothing words might help please?

  • Breathe …. And then wait xx don’t google … none of us know what is ahead of us but this is a great place of support and advice xx I went for my mammogram today so now just waiting….

  • Hi Shecat,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear  that you find yourself in this worrying situation. It is only natural to be terrified, but you have done the right thing by getting this seen to. Don't worry about getting an "urgent" appointment. This is the normal route, where there is any possibility of breast cancer. You should get your appointment date through within 2 weeks from the date of referral, although the actual appointment may take a little longer in some areas. Not everyone who attends the breast clinic will get a cancer diagnosis. Only 20% of those referred to the breast clinic, will be given the bad news.

Stay away from Google. Much of the information here is aimed at the more spectacular cases, won't apply to you, won't give you any answers, but will scare you even further. Try to keep yourself occupied until your appointment - it doesn't matter how - anything to take your mind off your current situation, will help the time to pass. I have been through 2 bouts of breast cancer. The treatment was all "doable" and I am still here 14 years on.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
