Appointment tomorrow to discuss treatment

Hi Everyone

This is my first post. I’m not quite sure what to say or think. My mum who is 86 has been diagnosed with early lung cancer. She has Lung CT and Brain CT scans and also 2x PET scans in the last 10 weeks.

She has to meet the oncologist tomorrow to discuss treatment. This will depend on the most recent scans last week. They were talking about radiotherapy and then immunotherapy.
The only thing is that she doesn’t want treatment as she has seen so many friends go through tough times.  Her decision is hers.

Any words of wisdom for me would be lovely please.

Thank you

  • It’s so hard … I’m 51 and watched my mum go through treatment for lung cancer last year it was the hardest thing I’ve ever been through-so I can understand why your mum might feel that way xx so hard for u though to see that though … maybe the oncologist might be able to speak to her xx

  • Thanks for your reply. Sorry to hear your mum had a tough time. Was the treatment successful and what did she have please? Mums oncologist gave her the only option which is Sabr radiotherapy. Mum is now thinking about it but a he still seems to be more on the side of doing nothing. She will probably decide by Monday. It’s stage 2 and 4cm. Grown about a cm in four months. I think I  do understand her thought process too a point. It’s just knowing the fact that the whole process, whichever she chooses will be difficult for her.  Take care.

  • My mum is doing well atm she had her scans recently and is back at the oncologist see the on Monday so we will see then . She was diagnosed with stage 2 - had an op and then chemo and radiotherapy but like that it kept changing first it was that they were just doing the op no chemo .. then she needed the chemo … after the chemo they wanted to do preventative radiotherapy - I think if they had presented her with this at the beginning she would have refused! It’s such a hard journey for
anyone to go through . Is your mum in good health other than that ?

  • Its odd  , I wrote a nice reply to you yesterday but its not showing here.  Maybe its lurking somewhere else..

Glad your mum is doing well, sounds like she had a tough time.  Hope the appointment tomorrow goes ok.

My mum has constant back pain - scoliosis and has other minor things going on.  She has made the decision not to go forward with any treatment.

Its her decision, so its now just a waiting game.  Hopefully she will be referred to the Palliative care team so that they can assist with any symptoms she gets going forward.

But your message about your mum, helps me to sort of understand her reasoning.

    You take care.
