Immunotherapy for NHL - what should I expect?

I have just been diagnosed with Stage 2, low grade Non Hodgkin's lymphoma. My haematologist has recommended an 8 week course of Immunotherapy which I start in the next 1-2 weeks. I know everyone is different and so are their cancers but I would be interested to hear from anyone who has had, or is undergoing this treatment for NHL in the pelvic area. I have read countless information on the treatment and side effects but without having ever experienced it am finding it difficult to prepare myself and my loved ones for what lies ahead. Thanks in advance - PFx

  • Hello Princess_Fiona

Welcome to the forum although I'm so sorry to hear about the circumstances that have led you here. It's naturally a worrying time for you ahead of starting your treatment and understandable that you want to do all you can to prepare yourself and your loved ones.

Do you know what type of immunotherapy you are having? I don't think we currently have any active members who are undergoing treatment for low-grade NHL but if you know the name of the immunotherapy drug you will be receiving then you could use the forum search function at the top of the page to see if that has been mentioned in any others posts recently. You might also find it helpful to have a look at the drug information we have on our website here

I'm not sure if you've come across a charity called Lymphoma Action. They are an organisation that specifically supports people with lymphomas including NHL and they have a number of different sources of support. Hopefully, someone with experience of this diagnosis will see your post and reply but if not, I'm sure you will be able to connect with others who are going through the same treatment via the Lymphoma Action website.

We do have a team of nurses here at Cancer Research UK that you're welcome to contact if you think it may help to talk things through with someone. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information, and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope things go smoothly with your treatment. Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
